Pirelli Scorpion Winter ‘best performer’ in group tests
By John SwiftIndustry News9th November 2018
Pirelli’s Scorpion Winter tyre has won the latest comparative test for SUV-suitable treads held by a German off-road magazine, Auto Bild Allrad, which called it the ‘best performer’ for handling on wet surfaces, dry braking and rolling resistance.
Another German magazine, Auto Zeitung, highlighted its capabilities ‘on snow as well as on dry roads’.
The magazines tested it in 235/60 R18 size, on an Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.
Scorpion Winter is available with all of Pirelli’s main specialities: PNCS, which decreases in-car rolling noise, Run Flat – which allows drivers to carry on to the nearest tyre dealer even after a puncture – and Seal Inside; technology that self-repairs a tyre.
It has been picked as original equipment by top car manufacturers including Alfa Romeo, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Volvo.
The range of tyres available, from 16 to 22 inches, covers 85% of the market and 90% of the sizes above 18 inches. Pirelli’s winter tyres have also obtained homologations on the newest electric cars and the same family of tyres is also fitted to the most sporting SUVs on the market, such as Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio and Lamborghini’s Urus.
Scorpion Winter is part of Pirelli’s Scorpion range and was specifically created for SUVs and crossovers and to be integrated with advanced driver aids such as traction control and ABS.
