Weather Reactive

If that all sounds a little confusing let us help you, starting with the Weather Reactive part which plays a fundamental role in making the Gen-2 such an effective tyre in any weather.

Goodyear uses a special plasticiser in the compound mix giving it a much wider operating window so as well as gripping in warm conditions it also retains vital flexibility in cold temperatures. Compared to a standard tyre that would begin to harden, gradually losing grip in exactly the conditions when a driver needs maximum `bite’ on the road.

SmartTRED Design

Allied to this is the Vector 4Seasons Gen-2’s SmartTRED design. Basically, this refers to different areas of the tyre adjusting to the road conditions and being optimised for maximum performance over a variety of weather and temperature situations.

The directional tread is designed so the grooves work more effectively at cutting through and clearing away rainwater, making it very resistant to aquaplaning, that terrifying situation where the tyre floats over the road surface and the driver loses control of the steering and braking.

Together these technologies work in harmony to give the Gen-2 such exceptional all-weather grip and performance.

3D Waffle Blades

For when the weather turns really wintry, it has high density 3D waffle blades in the tread, the part of the tyre in contact with the road. These hook into snow or slush, so the driver has the extra safety and reassurance from much better traction when accelerating, cornering, going up or down hill, stopping and steering.

Given these engineering developments it should be no surprise that the Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 carries the 3PMSF snowflake symbol on its sidewall which means it is officially certified as a winter tyre, an impressive achievement for a tyre which also does so well in summer driving.

And the good news of this extraordinary tyre doesn’t stop there because it offers yet more benefits. A flatter contour puts more rubber on the road so the weight of the vehicle is spread more evenly across the contact patch, reducing both the rolling resistance for better fuel economy, and promotes slower wear so it lasts longer.

It has Goodyear’s RunOnFlat technology so you can drive at up to 50mph and for up to 50 miles after a puncture. This is a huge safety feature which keeps you in control after a blowout and removes the need to do a roadside wheel change which can be a frightening and dangerous experience. It is also built with rim protectors in the sidewall for protection if you pinch the tyre against a kerb when parking.

The Gen-2 can fit smaller and mid-size hatchbacks but just to prove how strong, well designed and engineered this Goodyear is it is also approved for the most powerful SUVs and rated at up to 168mph!
