How do I find my tyre size?
The best way to find out which tyre size you need is to look at your current tyres. You will find the tyre size imprinted on the sidewall of the tyre (e.g. 205 50 R16 98V run flat). You are looking for the width of the tyre (i.e. 205), the sidewall (i.e. 50) and the rim size (i.e. 16). You will also need the load and speed rating (i.e. 98V) and finally check if it is a run flat or specialist fitment for your type of car (i.e. MO for Mercedes).
What can I do if I’ve got the wrong tyre size?
First, check again the tyre size on your current vehicle. If you’ve simply requested a tyre quote for what turns out to be the wrong size – don’t worry – just do another search with the correct tyre size. If you have already placed an order and organised a fitting with the wrong sized tyre, then please contact us immediately. Our team may still be able to change the tyres we are sending out to you, but it’s important that you call us straight away to amend the order. It is your responsibility to make sure that you ordered the correct size or fitment. A call out charge will be applied if our technicians cannot fit your tyre due to incorrect tyre size being supplied.

It tells you the maximum speed of use and level of performance the tyre can safely operate to.
What does 4x4 mean?
A vehicle that has the ability to have all 4 wheels receiving power from the engine.
What does RNF mean?
RNF stands for reinforced. Reinforced tyres tend to be fitted on small vans, people carriers and some SUV or 4X4 vehicles and some estate cars.
Do you charge for tyre disposal?
Tyre disposal is included in the quoted price. TyresOnTheDrive gives a fully inclusive price every time. Unlike some other tyre fitting companies, we don’t have any hidden charges. We dispose of tyres responsibly.
When should my tyre be replaced?
A tyre should be replaced when 3mm or less of the tread is remaining; the legal limit for a car tyre in the UK is 1.6mm across three-quarters of the tread. Other warning signs that your tyres may need replacing are:
- When your tyres are worn to the legal limit (1.6mm for a car in the UK).
- If your tyre shows signs of ageing (i.e. cracks on the tread or sidewall).
- If your tyre is damaged (i.e. a bulge on the sidewall).
- If you can see abnormal wear (i.e. the centre of the tyre is wearing much quicker than the shoulders).
- If the tyres are not suited to your vehicle (i.e. you are having handling problems).
- If you get a puncture, though on occasion a tyre can be repaired.
What happens to my old tyres?
We dispose of your old tyres using carefully selected professional tyre disposal companies. The old tyres are used in a number of different ways: they could be sent to remould manufacturers; used in road construction or for soft playground coverings; used as fuel at a power station; or even utilised for sea defence schemes. TyresOnTheDrive believes that the protection of the environment is a real concern, and we ensure that we dispose of your scrap tyres in the most ecologically and environmentally friendly way possible.
Do you offer a breakdown service?
No, TyresOnTheDrive is not a breakdown or rescue service, so we are unable to change tyres at the roadside on main roads. However, we will always try to assist if we can.

We are open 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm.
What are your fitting times?

Are the mobile tyre vans equipped with the right tools for the job?
All of the TyresOnTheDrive vans are equipped with state-of-the-art tyre changing machines that incorporate a pneumatic arm and bead raiser, tyre balancing machines and a compressor to inflate tyres. All of the equipment is similar to the equipment you would expect to see in a traditional high street depot, with the exception that we bring the tyre depot to you.
Can you fit low profile tyres?
Yes, we can fit as low as 25 profile tyres. The benefits of low profile tyres are improved performance and appearance. Lower deck heights give the tyres a racing car look, and also make them better at handling corners. Fewer grooves and smaller void areas between the treads are what make low profile tyres as effective as performance tyres. Combined, these features deliver greater lateral stability, improved tread wear and reduced weight.
How much space do you need to change a tyre?
We need to be able to get access to both sides of the car, and be able to park the fitting van near to where the vehicle is parked. Driveways or car parks are ideal, providing there is sufficient space around the vehicle.
Can you just deliver my tyres?
No, our service includes fitting tyres. We don't operate a delivery only service.
How do you balance my wheels?
Every one of our mobile fitting vans is equipped with a state-of-the-art balancing machine capable of balancing wheels from 10 inches all the way up to 30 inches in diameter!
What balancing weights do you use?
In line with the latest legislation, we use weights made of zinc. For steel wheels we will use uncoated weights, for alloy wheels we use coated stick-on weights. The wheels on many cars, including high performance vehicles, require stick-on weights that are not visible from the outside. At TyresOnTheDrive we use stick-on weights, therefore ensuring that your wheels always look their best.
Do you do puncture repairs?

If your puncture is in the sidewall or shoulder of the tyre then unfortunately it cannot be repaired. If this is the case our technician will show you, using the BSAU 159 gauge.

If they were called ‘part-safe’, would you still buy them?

How do I pay?

1) All of our vans have chip and PIN machines on board so you can pay with a debit or credit card after your tyres have been fitted. We accept all major credit and debit cards.
2) You can pay online, on our website, when you get to the basket after choosing your tyres.
3) We have a number of finance packages available through afforditNOW.
Is my credit transaction secure?

When will I get a VAT invoice?

Our mobile tyre technician will ask you to sign our job sheet on-site to confirm that you are happy with the work carried out, and then give you a copy of the job sheet along with an invoice. In the event that you have had a job completed at short notice, a VAT invoice will be posted out to you from our base in Holmes Chapel.
