Pirelli says homologations for its PNCS (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System) which reduces the level of tyre noise heard inside the car by up to 25% doubled last year, mainly among prestige and premium sector car makers.
In 2018 more than 150 sizes were approved as OE (original Equipment) factory fits by car makers, up from 78 in 2017.
A spokesman said: “This technology, which reduces the noise perceived within the vehicle by up to 25%, is increasingly requested by car manufacturers, especially in the Premium and Prestige segments, in order to offer greater comfort to car occupants.”
Pirelli now also has more than 500 homologations for its Run Flat tyres with Alfa Romeo, BMW, Jeep, Mercedes and Mini among the brands selecting it. Pirelli Run Flat technology is available on its P Zero, Cinturato, Scorpion and Scorpion Winter, Winter Sottozero 3 and Winter Sottozero Serie II tyres and can fit 97% of wheel rim diameters from 18” and upwards.
