Goodyear’s SoundComfort noise reduction technology which can halve tyre noise has been voted Product of the Year 2019 in the biggest consumer survey of its kind.

The innovative system has an open-cell polyurethane foam element in the inner surface of the tyre which reduces air vibrations. SoundComfort cuts noise by half – up to 4 decibels – and does so without any loss of performance and because the foam is light it doesn’t affect the fuel consumption and it does not lower the tyre’s speed ratings.

Goodyear says the SoundComfort shows that tyre makers are keeping pace with developments among car manufacturers which are making cars ever quieter and especially so with the arrival of electric cars.

Several thousand people in Belgium and Holland were surveyed for their views on product innovation.
