Goodyear launches latest Eagle F1 Asymmetric
By John SwiftIndustry News7th December 2018
Goodyear has unveiled the successor to its acclaimed Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 range with more than 60 sizes suitable for cars from a VW Golf to a Porsche 911 due here in 2019.
The Asymmetric 5 summer tyre is said to give significant improvements in wet braking and dry handling without compromising ride comfort or road noise.
Goodyear has refined the compound and the contact patch extends under heavy braking force, putting more rubber on the road and to a level more usually seen with a track tyre. Goodyear says its wet stopping distances are 4% shorter compared to the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3. It has reduced flex in the tread pattern as lateral forces are transmitted, giving more precise turn-in, more grip, steering feel and better acceleration.
The American manufacturer will introduce 51 sizes between February and May 2019, with a further 10 arriving between June and December. Goodyear will offer 17 to 22 inch diameters, 205 to 315 mm widths, and 50 to 25 side profiles, and intends fitments ranging from cars such as the Volkswagen Golf to more luxurious cars such as the Mercedes C-Class and the BMW 3 series to the standard versions of the Porsche 911.
