A Goodyear all-season tyre for SUVs was the only one rated ‘exemplary’ in a back-to-back group test by a German magazine.

The Goodyear Vector 4Seasons SUV Gen-2 was the winner of the six tyres from different brands put through their paces when fitted to an Audi Q5 and in 235/60 R18 107 V spec. The six tyres, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons SUV Gen-2, Hankook Kinergy 4S, Mastersteel All Weather, Michelin CrossClimate SUV, Nokian Weatherproof SUV and Vredestein Quartic 5. All were 3PMSF and M+S marked as winter tyres. Testers from the Auto Bild motoring magazine praised the Goodyear for its drive on wet and snow covered surfaces, its good resistance to aquaplaning and its low road noise. The only slight criticism was for its price. The runner-up was the Michelin CrossClimate SUV which lost a few points for taking longer to brake on snow but the testers otherwise recommended it. The magazine said the CrossClimate almost as good as a summer tyre on dry roads, had good wet weather performance and low rolling resistance. Third place was shared by the Nokian Weatherproof SUV and Vredestein Quatrac 5. The Nokian impressed with its short braking distance on snow and wet roads and good aquaplaning safety while the Vredestein had good grip and short stopping distances in the wet and respectable snow performance. The fourth tyre to finish with a ‘good’ rating was the fifth-placed Hankook Kinergy 4S.
