Dunlop leads the field in classic car tyre test

By John SwiftIndustry News20th August 2019

A Dunlop tyre specifically catering for owners of a cherished older classic car has been voted the best in a group test.

German car magazine Auto Bild Klassik awarded Dunlop’s Sport Classic first place in its annual vintage tyre test after demonstrating precise steering, very good aquaplaning performance, short braking distance on a wet surface and its overall driving experience as well as having the look of a period tyre.

The Dunlop Sport Classic stood out in multiple wet tests. When driving on the Dunlops, the test car – an Austin Healy 3000 – only started aquaplaning at 57 mph, easily winning this wet grip test as the average speed the other seven tyres could maintain before aquaplaning was less than 50. The Dunlops also carried the Austin to the shortest lap time on a wet track thanks to its stronger grip in those conditions and it topped the rest in the dry handling test too.

It also recorded the third best performance in both wet braking when driving at 62 mph with a stopping distance of – 51.8 meters against a test average of 57 – and wet handling.

Piotr Nagalski, Dunlop Director Marketing Consumer Europe, said: “We are delighted to see that the Dunlop Sport Classic is once again best in class. This second consecutive win shows that Dunlop is the reigning champion when it comes to vintage tyres.”
