Bridgestone lightens the load for more mpg, less CO2 and a longer range for electric cars

Bridgestone is launching what it says is a brand new tyre construction that is 10% lighter and has 20% less rolling resistance than a standard one with dramatic benefits to cars’ fuel economy, CO2 outputs or increased range in an electric vehicle.
Called Enliten, Bridgestone says it achieves all these goals without any trade-off on tyre wear or safety and as a further bonus, even improves the car’s handling and stability.
Enliten is based on a proprietary compound mix that gives improved wear performance and a decreased tread depth, a reduced and reinforced inner liner thickness and a new mould design concept.
Paolo Ferrari, CEO and President Bridgestone EMEA, said: “Becoming more sustainable is the responsibility of every person and business on this planet. Our customers have their own initiatives and as their partner we are responsible for helping them achieve their goals as best we can. As we are working towards our long-term environmental vision to manufacture products from raw materials that are fully renewable and sustainable by 2050 and beyond, Enliten is a great step forward.”
