About Lexus
Lexus is a division of Toyota and from the outset has enjoyed a deserved reputation for combining high tech and high luxury, the equal of any in its respective price ranges and market sectors. Today its range has the added advantage and attraction of benefitting from Toyota’s pioneering work in hybrid powertrains, something its rivals are far behind in. Lexus models go from hatchbacks to sports coupes to saloons to high end SUVs, all of them luxurious, all of them highly sophisticated.
It is one of the newest car brands in the UK market, arriving here in 1990 with the LS 400 saloon. It made an immediate impact for its build quality and affordable luxury, forcing many more established names to reconsider how they built their cars, what features they fitted into them and how much they charged buyers. It is a formula Lexus has stuck to ever since, with a success others can only look at with envy.

CT
Heavily refreshed for 2019, the CT is the gateway to the Lexus range. It is a five door hatchback available with hybrid engine technology so it can run in zero emission mode on battery power alone, with the petrol engine, or with both for when maximum power is needed such as accelerating uphill. It comes in three basic spec levels and most versions run on 17 inch rims and 215/45R17 87W tyres.
IS
The IS is a rear-wheel driven luxury/performance sports saloon built to rival the BMW 3 Series, Alfa Romeo Giulia and others. It is the third generation IS and the first to have Lexus’s self-charging hybrid system and is perhaps the most overtly sporting yet, as the interior, especially the driver’s area and the cockpit layout are inspired by that of the Lexus LFA supercar. The suspension and steering reflect this approach and give the IS a comfortable but firm stance on the road. It rides on 17 or 18 inch wheels, depending on the version, with the former having 225/45 R17’s all round the latter 225/40 R18 at the front and 255/35 R18 at the back.
NX
The NX crossover quickly established itself as a key player in the Lexus range, accounting for more than 30% of its European sales since its launch in 2014. It has a hybrid powertrain and the option of front or all-wheel drive. The NX is renowned for the variety and quality of its comfort, safety and connectivity features. It even has a Road Sign Assist where the car ‘reads’ upcoming signs and repeats them on the cabin display screen so there is no risk of missing one.
GS
The Lexus GS is the only premium sports saloon available with a choice of two full hybrid powertrains, the GS 300h and GS 450h. The new entry level 300h has a combined power output from its petrol and electric motors of 220 bhp and the 450h, 341 bhp. For those wanting more, the GS 450h F Sport is a much more performance-oriented car and among other things, has four wheel steering for even sharper turn-in when cornering. Elsewhere and illustrating the on-board sophistication, the GS range has the world’s largest production car multimedia display with a 12 inch full colour LCD screen.
RX
The Lexus RX is well established, having been around since 1998 and historically is its best selling model globally. This latest is the fourth generation RX, it follows the successful crossover concept of having the luxury of a premium saloon with the styling of an SUV and it offers the full range of the manufacturer’s engines and interior sophistication. Depending on the model, the RX rides on 18 or 20 inch rims and with 235/65 R18 or 235/55 R20 tyres respectively.
LC
The Lexus LC is a luxury, high performance GT with the classic front engine/rear wheel drive layout. There is a choice of a 3.5 V6 hybrid or a 5.0 V8 with a new 10 speed automatic transmission, a world first in this sector. Speaking of firsts, the LC is the first in the class to offer 21 inch wheels. Some versions have a light-but-strong carbon fibre reinforced plastic roof to lower the centre of gravity and the Sport+ package even includes an active rear spoiler.
LS
When Lexus launched in the UK in 1989, it was with the LS saloon it established itself as the standard setter for build quality. In December 2017 it unveiled the fifth generation LS which builds on and continues the pedigree, but it is noticeably sleeker, lower and more coupe like in its styling than earlier ones. There are no lengths Lexus will not go to to achieve perfection, its distinctive radiator grille has no fewer than 5,000 individual surfaces, rising to 7,000 in the case of the F Sport version. It took a skilled CAD modeller six months to produce, followed by further precision adjustment by hand. All LS models use run-flat tyres, 245/45 R20 front and 275/40 R20 rear for the F Sport, and 245/45 R20 for all other versions.
