About Jaguar

Since it began shortly after World War Two, Jaguar has been associated with fast and graceful sports cars, and fast and elegant saloons.

‘Grace, pace and space’ was the motto of company founder, Sir William Lyons, and by and large it is a philosophy that has guided Jaguar ever since. Today it is accelerating into the SUV market which does give a boost to the bottom line.

Popular Jaguar Cars

Jaguar XE

A competitor for the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4, the XE is a compact executive saloon and what should be Jaguar’s volume sales car. It has struggled against the German models, but with good petrol and diesel engines, a very good ride and appealing cabin, it should do better than it has to date. Like most cars of this size and price, the XE has been particularly hard hit by the switch to SUVs – which is why Jaguar has recently added one with approximate XE dimensions.

Jaguar XF

The Jaguar XF is a multiple award winner in a market sector packed with extremely capable cars, which shows just how good this coupe-styled saloon is. The BMW 4 Series will run it close but it can show most rivals how to take a bend sweetly and how to cope with the bumps and ruts of our roads. Jaguar Land Rover’s engines are modern and clean, it has a decent interior and looks that don’t seem to date.

Jaguar F-Type

The most convincing Jaguar sports car in decades, the glamorous F-Type is a match for anything leaving the Porsche factory in real-world driving. Sold in either hardtop coupe or soft top convertible form, the F-Type range starts with a recently added  turbocharged 2.0 litre entry level car and goes through to the 200 mph 5.0 litre supercharged V8 version. It is not the sales volume that counts here but the halo effect the F-Type has in showing Jaguar can again make cars that match the best.

Jaguar E-Pace

The new E-Pace puts Jaguar right in the heart of the smaller premium badge SUV market and with some of the styling cues taken from the F-Type two seater, it certainly justifies the ‘sports’ element of the Sports Utility Vehicle label. In price it is similar to the XE saloon but will undoubtedly be a much bigger sales success, adding some volume and profit to Jaguar’s sales record. It is based on a Land Rover rather than Jaguar chassis but handles and rides more like a car. There is a strong sense of sitting high-up which is an SUV trait but it feels more pronounced in the E-Pace than in some competitors such as the BMW X1. The interior is instantly recognisable as Jaguar with familiar info screens and controls and it is a comfy car to be in.

Jaguar F-Pace

The F-Pace was Jaguar’s first ever SUV car and also the fastest selling new car it has ever put on sale. It is a big vehicle, about the size of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, but with a lightweight chassis it is very much a road-oriented model. Test drives reveal that a chassis as agile as what is widely regarded as the class standard, the Porsche Macan, The F-Pace is sold in a wide variety of engine and spec options and comes with a 2.0 litre diesel. It has glamorous looks, far sportier than those of most rivals, and an excellent interior. Jaguar knows this is a key car if it is to make some real money on the investment put in by the company’s owners, who so far have seen more cash coming back from sister company, Land Rover, than Jaguar as the market moves from saloons to SUVs.

Jaguar I-PACE

Jaguar is first out of the blocks among the established car makers to marry the two main strands of the global industry at the moment; SUVs and electric powertrains. The i-Pace has no internal combustion engine at all and runs purely on battery power, which can be recharged from a domestic or public supply and by its on-board generator which harvests energy as the car brakes and converts it to electrical power for the battery. The i-Pace is only now just starting to come onto the market, so it is too new to have much real-world data on it, but what can be said is that Jaguar claims a range of almost 300 miles on a single charge and a 0 to 60 time of less than five seconds. It remains to be seen if customers will find this a sufficiently practical proposition, but if they do this car will spearhead a whole new direction in the car market.
