At Tyres on the Drive, you can get your new Mitsubishi tyres fitted as early as the next day, and at a time and location that’s convenient for you.
What we now know as Mitsubishi started out back in the 1870s with three steamships and their flags displayed the Three-Diamond emblem which led to the name ‘Mitsubishi’, Japanese for Three Diamonds. Through aircraft and banking and even optics, Mitsubishi has grown and in today’s car world it is possibly best known for its 4×4 vehicles, an area in which it was one of the global pioneers as its first four wheel drive appeared as far back as 1936. Mitsubishi is a medium-sized player among the world’s auto manufacturers but its products are sold in more than 160 markets and it is part of the triple alliance formed by it, Renault and Nissan which share components and the cost of developing new products.
The Mirage is a five door city car powered by a small and frugal 1.2 litre, three cylinder petrol engine. One of its key attractions is the level of comfort, convenience and safety features packed in as standard even if it falls behind newer rivals in the way it rides and handles. There are two trim specs, Mirage 3 and Mirage 4, the first having 14 inch wheels and the second running on 15s. Tyre sizes for Mitsubishi Mirage are 165/65 R14 and 175/55 R15.
The ASX is a mid-size cross-over SUV, a competitor to rivals such as the Peugeot 3008, SEAT Ateca or Nissan Qashqai. Available in either petrol or diesel, the ASX offers four wheel drive on the pricier diesel versions. It is one of the oldest cars in this sector of the market where standards set by newer rivals get ever higher and because of that the Mitsubishi is not regarded as a contender for class honours, although it is competitively priced and has a five year warranty. Tyre sizes for Mitsubishi ASX are 225/55 R18 on all versions.
Another SUV in Mitsubishi’s range, the Eclipse Cross is a modern vehicle with a high level of sophistication in the driving environment and cabin. There is the availability of all-wheel drive to complement the usual front-wheel drive but because it only has a 1.5 litre petrol engine it might struggle to tow or cope with off-road conditions as well as some others which have more torque. A 2.2 diesel is said to be added to the range. This vehicle rides on 16 or 18 inch wheels with 215/70 R16 and 225/55 R18s respectively.
The Mitsubishi Outlander is a full size, five or seven seater SUV with serious towing and off-road capabilities but is perhaps best known for the trail-blazing PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) version which has both a petrol and an electric motor, the latter giving this hefty car around 30 miles on battery power alone. There are diesel options for those not wanting a PHEV and even a petrol- only model although one would need to be prepared for its hefty fuel consumption. Tyre sizes for the Mitsubishi Outlander: 225/55 R18.
An old-school 4×4, the Outlander has been slightly left behind as the market has changed but for towing a heavy caravan, horsebox or other form of trailer it is still an excellent workhorse. It is sold in both short- or long-wheelbase format and there is even the option of a commercial version for when a job requires venturing off piste. Tyre sizes for the Mitsubishi Shogun are 265/60 R18 and 265/50 R20.
This is a seven seater 4×4 and the car Mitsubishi hopes will tempt buyers who want some of the off-road and towing capabilities of the Shogun but with a dash of modernity in its looks and interior. Like the L200 pick-up truck, with which this car shares many of its chassis elements, the Shogun Sport has a separate body shell and chassis, which, while it may not confer the highest standards of ride and handling, does make it ideal for towing and Mitsubishi reckons something like 90% will be fitted with a towbar. It rides on 18 inch wheels.
One of the most popular pick-up vehicles on the market, the L200 has been a core of Mitsubishi’s sales over several generations and this latest one leads the class in several areas and has picked up many awards. It is a tough, go-anywhere vehicle with 4×4 and sold in both single, club and double cab versions, catering for those who want more seats at the expense of a small amount of cargo space. The L200 rises on 16 and 17 inch wheels.
