Jeep Renegade
The Renegade is the smallest Jeep product and has been voted Best Small SUV of the Year by 4×4 magazine for the last three years running, which says a lot about its ability and appeal for its price. Like most SUVs, it is designed primarily for on-road use and daily transport, but unlike most the Renegade has genuine off-road ability for when a driver needs to go off-piste. It is this which makes it attractive to people living in more rural areas or where there is rugged terrain. It is sold in more than 20 variants and engines include Fiat’s award winning 1.4 litre MultiAir petrol unit.
Jeep Compass
This is a new car and pitches Jeep into the medium-sized SUV market against cars such as the Nissan Qashqai. Like the Renegade, it beats virtually all the opposition for real off-road driving and with the highest output diesel the Jeep will tow up to 1,900 kgs with a braked caravan or horsebox, putting it up there with Land Rover and Jaguar SUVs but at a somewhat lower price!
Jeep Cherokee
This is the fifth generation to wear this name plate and it has sharper and significantly more mainstream styling relative to the opposition, than before. Strong points are the amount of room inside and it is reasonably well equipped. One benefit of being part of the Fiat Chrysler Alliance is that the corporate parts bin can be used, so although there are some Fiat parts in the Cherokee you will also find that the big infotainment touchscreen is from another brand in the FCA group, Maserati!
Jeep Grand Cherokee
The biggest and most luxurious of the Jeep range, the Grand Cherokee is now a proper contender in the class occupied by Range Rover, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche and others. Whereas previous generation cars were criticised for poor quality across the board, the current model is supremely comfortable. Its eight speed gearbox and ample torque allied to good suspension make it an excellent long distance tourer, it pulls well for towing and is well priced against rivals.
