About Seat

Previously linked with Fiat, the SEAT brand is now part of the VW group and shares many of its components with others within the umbrella organisation, including Skoda. It does so however with what SEAT says is a little bit of Spanish flair in its styling and driving characteristics.

It is a formula which seems to be chiming with buyers and despite the new car market overall dropping in 2018, SEAT has been on an upwards trajectory for some years and last year saw it increase sales by 12%, overtaking Renault in the process.

Popular Seat Cars

Mii

The Mii is SEAT’s smallest model, a five-door city car that is generally well regarded for being roomy, reliable, safe and in the latest versions, providing high levels of connectivity. Power comes from a three cylinder 1.0 litre petrol engine in either 60 or 75PS form.

Ibiza

Voted the Best Small Car of the Year in 2018 by What Car? magazine, the VW Polo-based Ibiza is a roomy, well equipped five door hatchback and a rival to cars such as the Ford Fiesta or Renault Clio. Like the Mii, it too uses the three cylinder 1.0 litre petrol engine in a variety of power outputs. It also offers a semi-automatic gearbox and a diesel option. Among its safety and convenience features are a hill-hold brake, which makes starting off uphill much easier, a reversing camera and an integrated, 8 inch infotainment screen with full connectivity.

Leon

This is SEAT’s mid-sized family hatchback and is available as a standard five door rival to something like the Vauxhall Astra, as an estate (the ST version) with a longer load area, or as the sporty Cupra model. All Leon’s are generally regarded to ride and handle well and are very well equipped by the standards of the class in terms of safety and convenience features. It can maintain a safe gap to the cars ahead and behind in a traffic jam, automatically apply the brakes if a pedestrian unexpectedly steps out and you don’t react in time and can do the same if the driver fails to slow in time to a hazard in front.

Arona

The Arona is a relative newcomer to SEAT’s range and slots into the huge market for crossovers, vehicles based on hatchbacks but which have the slightly raised ride height and some of styling cues of an SUV. Being a modern product, it has the latest in driver aids – safety and connectivity – and benefits from the VW group’s engine range with the widely used 1.0 litre alongside a 1.5 petrol and a 1.6 diesel. In both 2018 and again in 2019, What Car? magazine voted it the best in its class in its Car of the Year awards.

Ateca

This is SEAT’s first SUV and another multiple award-winning car. It has an easily-selected 4WD mode which gives it impressive all-weather and rough terrain capability and even if you don’t venture off road this facility will still help you navigate flooded or snowy roads. Given its extra weight over smaller SEATs and that it is more likely to be used by drivers towing a trailer such as a caravan, the Ateca has a wider range of engines including bigger diesels.

Alhambra

This is a seven seater MPV with a fully flexible interior which can be configured in a variety of ways to give more passenger or carrying space as the need arises. Sliding rather than hinged back doors make it easier for passengers to get in or out in tight parking spaces, it has excellent levels of safety and all the driver aids and connectivity expected in this, the top end of the MPV market.

Tarraco

Another recent addition to the SEAT portfolio, the Tarraco is a seven seat SUV which combines the best of both worlds, the passenger space of a full-size MPV people carrier with the styling of an off-roader. It has SEAT’s 4Drive all-wheel drive technology for off-road work which helps to make the Tarraco a great car for towing heavy trailers such as a big caravan or horsebox.
