About Rolls Royce

In the rarefied world of super-luxury cars, Rolls-Royce has been at the apex ever since engineer Henry Royce met wealthy businessman Charles Rolls at a hotel in Manchester in 1904 and decided to form a partnership. It was Royce who said ‘take the best that exists and make it better’ and that is a guiding principle of the company today.

However, despite excellence in cars, Rolls-Royce has fared less well financially and has struggled at various times over the years. Being taken over by BMW in 1999 secured its future, the funding allowed a brand new factory to be built at Goodwood in Sussex and proper development for a new generation of spectacular cars.

Popular Rolls Royce Cars

Ghost

Because so much of each Rolls-Royce is hand built to the customer’s exact specifications there is no such thing as a ‘standard’ car, but what we can say is that the Ghost has a 6.6 litre V12 producing around 570 hp unless you opt for the Black Badge version which gives you around an extra 60 hp to play with. Delivering on Rolls’ promise of ‘effortless performance’, the V12 produces maximum torque from little more than tick-over, at just 1,500 rpm. The Ghost can also be ordered in extended wheelbase form giving more space for the passengers in the back seats.

Dawn

Essentially a convertible version of the Ghost and using the same engine and drivetrain, the Dawn is an elegant two door soft top.

Phantom

Built to order as a saloon, a coupe or a convertible, the Phantom is the most flexible of the Rolls-Royce range and its most expensive too. It has two engine options, the familiar V12 with 460 hp or a slightly stretched derivative with fractionally more c.c. but a lot more power, around 100 hp more.

Cullinan

A car which shocked many purists in its conception and many onlookers with its styling, the Cullinan is Rolls’ SUV and it would argue, easily the most luxurious and refined in the world, despite what Bentley may claim for its Bentayga. Named after the famous diamond, the biggest ever found, the Cullinan has four wheel drive and endless torque for easy off-road driving and it performs surprisingly well in this environment.
