About Mini

The rebirth of the MINI brand under BMW parentage is perhaps the classic example of how a revered and historic brand can be taken from one living on past glories and, with ample funding and careful guidance, transformed into a vibrant, modern marque but one that perfectly captures the spirit of the original that made it so successful in the first place. BMW bought the Rover company in the 1990s but retained only the Mini brand when the rest were closed. In 2000 it relaunched this much loved name with a car that was instantly

identifiable as a Mini, yet had a contemporary chassis, interior and engine. Above all, it had the same cheeky, fun character that made the little original an image of the carefree ‘60s. In the years since the MINI range (now always spelt in upper case) has been expanded and extended so that there is a convertible, a four wheel drive, a plug-in hybrid, various levels of performance, stretched versions, an endless list of options and scheduled from 2019, an electric MINI as well.

Popular Mini Cars

Mini

Perhaps the most familiar looking of the MINI brand, this brilliant little hatchback is sold in both three and five door form and with a bewildering array of trim and power specifications. So varied are the options that it there is almost no such thing as a standard model. What every version brings is a hugely sophisticated interior and a brilliant chassis that makes driving a pleasure rather than a chore – even on our congested roads.

Convertible

Going from closed to open in less than 20 seconds with its folding soft top at the press of a button, the Convertible is one of a handful of small cars capable of pulling off this trick, falling roughly halfway between the Fiat 500C or DS 3 Cabrio in terms of size and the Audi A3 in terms of price. As with the hatchback there is a wide choice of spec and equipment.

Countryman

The biggest of the MINI range and with the option of all wheel drive, the Countryman is the most SUV-like in character if not in styling. As with any car in the model line, the Countryman is extremely well equipped which reinforces the impression of being in a premium, upmarket family car, but also makes ownership more enjoyable.

Clubman

Distinguished by its double-doors at the back, where on most conventional cars there would be a lift-up hatch, this five door is a roomy, practical and especially family-friendly version of the MINI range. It too has the usual wide range of spec and personalisation options.
