About Lotus

Founded and guided by the brilliant, innovative and unconventional engineer, Colin Chapman, Lotus is one of the handful of companies which have been successful at the highest levels on both the race tracks and the road over several decades. From its earliest days Lotus has stood for making lightweight cars that handled like a dream and that was as true for its road cars as its race cars. It has always been about having the cars with the best road-holding rather than the most power and it was this formula which took it and its drivers to the very top level of motor racing with multiple Formula One World Championships. Chapman’s influence and legacy lives on through its current day sports car range which are light and relatively low powered but still the standard by which price rivals are judged when it comes to handling.

Popular Lotus Cars

Elise Sport 220

Based around an immensely stiff aluminium chassis that weighs just 68 kgs, the Elise has a 1.8 litre supercharged engine developing around 215 hp but it is the handling which lies at the core of this two seater. The Lotus also has a removable hard top so it can be opened up in sunny weather in a few seconds. For its tyres, Lotus uses Yokohama’s Advan Sport v105 with 195/50 R16 at the front and 225/45 R17 at the back.

Exige

This is the mid-range Lotus and has a 3.5 litre supercharged V6 but the same lightweight chassis as the Elise models. With 345 bhp available and grip from sticky Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres (205/45 R17 front and 265/35 R18 rear) the Exige needs just 3.7 second to get from a standstill to 60 mph on its way to a top speed of 170 mph.

Evora

Not exactly a family car but this is officially a 2+2 which means it has space for two in the front and two (small) people in the back so it is Lotus’s most domesticated car. It also happens to be its fastest too with a top speed of 186 mph courtesy of the 3.5 V6 used in the Exige but boosted here to around 400 bhp. For this model Lotus turned to Michelin and the Evora has its Pilot Sport tyres (front 235/35 R19, rear 285/30 R20).
