About Honda

Named after its founder, Sochiro Honda, the Japanese brand is one of the most famous and respected in the world. From motorbikes to motor cars, portable generators to jet aeroplanes and with motorsport championship victories on two and four wheels too numerous to list, Honda is a by- word for engineering excellence around the globe.

In 2017 it was the fourth biggest car maker in the world with 4.97 million registrations, behind only Ford, VW and Toyota and its best-selling car is the UK-built Civic. This is the tenth generation of the landmark car, Honda employs thousands at its factory in Swindon and the supply chain delivering the components for the car.

Popular Honda Cars

Jazz

Launched in early 2018, the new third generation Honda Jazz is a clever five door hatchback with a very practical interior as its key selling point. The Jazz has more youthful styling inspired by the bigger Honda Civic, a very good range of safety and anti-collision aids which help lower its insurance ratings and reasonable engines, although as yet, no hybrid. Every generation of the Jazz has what Honda calls its ‘Magic Seat’ technology , which transforms a mid-size hatchback into a surprisingly capable load lugger ideal for families. With a clever folding/tipping mechanism, the back seats can be locked into an upright position leaving room for pushchairs or other tall items.

Civic

A mainstay of the Honda range over several decades, the Civic has grown up into a mature car to rival the Ford Focus or VW Golf. The latest Civic is the tenth generation to wear the badge and Honda says it has spent more time, money and resources on its development than on any other road car in its history. Built at Honda’s Swindon factory in Wiltshire, the Civic has a fine chassis, a strong range of engines and a very modern interior with it all underpinned by the company’s legendary build quality and reputation for reliability which is among the very best in the industry. There is a full spectrum of family models but the headlines are usually grabbed by the extraordinary Type-R, Honda’s 170 mph ultra- performance hatchback.

HR-V

The Honda HR-V was one of the first compact SUVs in this end of the market and was established before the sector really took off and cars like the Nissan Qashqai became household names. The HR-V is based on a hatchback, the Jazz, but gives you a proper SUV experience with the raised ride height affording a better view of the road, what the car industry refers to as the ‘command position’. It handles well and feels quite taut to drive. Honda specifies 215/55 R17 tyres on the mid-range cars.

CR-V

The CR-V (compact recreational vehicle) was another early entrant to the market which has now been filled with cars from several makes. Honda’s CR-V is not the flashiest around and not the most dynamic to drive but it is a solid performer, comfortable and a firm favourite with anyone who tows a heavy trailer such as a big caravan or horsebox. It is a car to buy with the head more than the heart but owners who run the Honda CR-V over many thousands of miles swear by them and there is a lot of loyalty for the model.
