About Ferrari

Arguably the most famous motoring name in the world, the Ferrari story began in 1947 when its first car was driven out of the factory gates in the little industrial town of Maranello in north Italy where it remains based to this day. Founder Enzo Ferrari’s first love was always his race cars and the road cars he sold to royalty and rock stars were largely seen as just a way to fund the competition activities.

Racing runs through the DNA of Ferrari and some of the engine, chassis and aerodynamic technology developed for the blood red Formula One cars can be found in its current range of production cars, forging a clear link between the race track and the road.

Popular Ferrari Cars

488

Taking its name from the number of cc in each of its eight cylinders, the 488 is a mid-engined supercar and the entry level to the Ferrari range although with a starting price of £197,500 that is a high entry level! Sold in both coupe and soft top form, the 488’s 3.9 litre V8 develops 670 hp in standard form or 720 in the more track-oriented Pista version, and that is enough to get it from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds on its way to a top speed of 202 mph (convertible), 205 (coupe).

812 Superfast

This is a front-engined GT car which melds high end luxury with high speed performance with a special emphasis on the latter element. The 5.5 litre V12 delivers a full 800 hp to the rear wheels giving it the sort of performance few will ever have the skill, nerve or space to experience with a top speed the far side of 210 mph.

GTC4

The words ‘Ferrari’ and ‘four seater’ and ‘four wheel drive’ may sound like an unlikely association but the GTC4 offers its owners exactly that on the basis that some of them may want to drive up to their ski chalets in winter but don’t want to take their SUV. There are two versions of the oddly-styled, almost estate car looking GTC4, one with a V8 turbo engine and conventional rear wheel drive and the other, a 6.3 litre V12 powering all four wheels.

Portofino

Named after the picturesque little fishing port near Genoa, the Ferrari Portofino is an elegant convertible where the emphasis is more on luxury and style than outright performance. Indeed, it shares its 3.9 litre V8 with the ‘basic’ GTC4 and these two are the only cars in the Maranello stable not capable of breaking into 200 mph territory – although with a max speed of 199 mph they come pretty close.
