About Daihatsu

One of the oldest car firms of any type, Daihatsu can trace its origins back to 1907 when it was among the pioneers making some of the earliest internal combustion engines and later became part of the Toyota family of companies where it specialised in making small cars and vans.

Daihatsu stopped importing and selling their cars in the UK in 2011 but plenty of them remain active on the second hand market and with their renowned build quality and reliability, they still make popular cars.

Popular Daihatsu Cars

Sirion

First launched here in 1998 and superseded with a much nicer second generation model in 2005, the Sirion is a five-door city car with a 1.0 or 1.3 litre engine, negligible running costs and a good reputation for being roomy, well equipped and having bullet-proof build quality. It was Daihatsu’s biggest seller and the most commonly found example of the marque in today’s second hand market.

Terios

The Terios was one of the first compact SUVs in the UK and was a genuine, go-anywhere 4×4. The original version arrived in the UK in 1997 but the next generation model (2006) is much nicer and based on the original RAV4 from parent company, Toyota. It has a 1.5 litre petrol engine and full four wheel drive, it will easily cope with off-road driving.

Copen

A tiny two-seater convertible, the Copen was sold between 2003 and 2010 and was pitched as an alternative to the similarly sized Suzuki Cappuccino and Fiat Barchetta. Most versions came with a motorbike-sized engine of 660 cc but it was turbocharged and so long as you gave it plenty of revs, more than adequate for getting the lightweight Copen to move along quite briskly. A 1.3 was later added which made driving easier but arguably less fun.
