About Toyo Tyres

Toyo Tyres was founded more than 70 years ago and has been in the UK market since 1981 specialising in mid-price tyres for cars, SUVs, vans, motorsport and now classic cars.

As well as general tyres its range now caters for drivers looking for more specific characteristics. For example, its Celsius range is an all-weather tyre but has design elements in its tread that make it far better than most `general’ tyres if there is snow on the road. The Toyo Nanoenergy tyre comes in various sizes and majors on reducing fuel consumption as far as possible without sacrificing grip or ride comfort. You can read more on this below. And in more specialist fields, Toyo Tyres’ `Old Timer’ series caters for pre-1990 cars and many owners fit them as trusted components for their classic vehicle, and Toyo is rapidly gaining traction in motor racing and rallying too. Two technologies make Toyo Tyres stand out, its Silent Wall and its Multi Wave Sipes designs.

Silent Wall is a careful design of the side of the grooves where the passing air flow is disturbed by serrations and makes less noise. In a conventional tyre where air is not disturbed you can hear the whistling sound known as `pipe resonance’. Multi-wave sipes are thin, modified slits in the shoulder block of a tyre and as it wears the two walls interlock. This reduces the amount of movement in the tread block and keeps more of the tyre tread in contact with the road surface giving more grip in all conditions and a longer tyre life. Toyo products generally get very good reviews in owner satisfaction surveys. For example, the Toyo Proxes CF2 is an all-weather tyre for family cars and in one recent study gauging feedback from drivers who together covered more than 500,000 miles on them, three quarters said they would replace them with the same tyre.

Popular Toyo Tyres

NanoEnergy 3

The NanoEnergy 3 is the third in this range of low cost tyres and suitable for city cars and small/mid-size hatchbacks. It has been improved in every area and highlights include a longer life, lower fuel consumption and better wet weather grip than its predecessor, making it cheaper and safer to run on.

Proxes CF2

Its B rated grip in the wet is one of its stand-out features and it also performs well in the fuel economy score, ticking two of the boxes drivers look for when choosing a tyre, and its durability and therefore low whole life costs ticks the third. Toyo makes it in a wide range of sizes so the Proxes 2 can fit the majority of mid- market makes and models.

Proxes CF2 SUV

The latest Toyo Proxes CF2 SUV has been specifically to suit small and mid-size SUVs which now make most of the family car market. It’s a good all-round tyre but particularly good in wet weather with a B rating  for grip and braking in rainy conditions. The Proxes 2 CF2 SUV has good durability, always a Toyo strength, and lighter construction which helps fuel economy.
