Tyre Speed symbols

The type of tyre originally fitted to a vehicle will have been determined by the car and manufacturers to optimise performance. Vehicles should have the equivalent replacements fitted when they require changing. It is possible to select another tyre to suit specific styles of driving, the climatic conditions and road conditions.

• Speed Rating is identified by a letter. This corresponds both to maximum speed of use and to a level of overall performance i.e. road holding, grip and safety.

Whilst it is possible to fit a tyre with a speed rating or load index higher than the original tyre, will not necessarily give any benefit or improvement to performance or handling
