Tyre Damage


Running a tyre under-inflated or overloaded is a common cause of damage and deterioration.
This may show –

·         On the tread
o   More wear on the shoulder’s
o   Deformation of the tread
o   Tearing the tread
 
·         On the sidewalls
o   Circumferential wear
 
·         Inside the tyre
o   Mottling (creases in the internal rubber)
o   Chaffing and dislocation of part or all of the internal rubber
o   Splits in the casing

If a tyre is found under-inflated, a tyre specialist should check that this has not resulted in any damage, before it is re-inflated. Tyre pressures are recommended to be check at least once a month and before any long journey.
